When The Fate Of Eternity Hung On A Tree
Many of years ago God stepped took nothing and created everything.
The whole creation is evidence that we have a Divine maker. Part of
His creation was mankind. The very first man that God made was
Adam. The Bible says in Genesis 2:7, “And the LORD God formed man
of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the
breath of life; and man became a living soul.” After that, God
created a wife for Adam, named Eve. God put Adam and Eve in the
garden of Eden. They could do basically anything they wanted to do
except for one thing. God told them in Genesis 2:16 - 17, “And the
LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden
thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good
and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest
thereof thou shalt surely die.” God gave Adam and Eve hundreds and
thousands of trees to eat, but they only had to stay away from one.
A little while later Satan entered into the garden and tempted Adam
and Eve. He asked them if God really meant what he said. Satan told
them that if they would eat from the forbidden tree they would have
knowledge as gods. Adam and Eve gave in and took the fruit from the
tree and ate it. When they ate the fruit their eyes were made to
see the nakedness of mankind. They tried to sew fig leaves to cover
their nakedness. God went looking for them and they told God that
they were naked. God then slew innocent animals to make skins to
cover their nakedness. As a result of mankind’s disobedience, Adam
and Eve are cursed. Thus, all children that would ever be born from
man and woman would be cursed also. This makes all mankind
disobedient by nature. There was one tree that determined the fate
of all mankind and it brought death to all that would ever be
born.
About 4000 years after this something took place for the first time
in history, a person was born without a father. This was how Jesus
Christ was born. The Bible says in John 1:1 that Jesus is God and
that He has always been existent. John 1:14 says that Jesus “ . . .
was made flesh, and dwelt among us . . .” Jesus, the Son of God,
lived a perfect, sinless life for thirty three and one half years.
Even though Jesus lived a perfect life, He was judged by the
government and sentenced to the death penalty. Jesus was to die by
the death of the cross, or crucifixion. Jesus picked up His cross,
made of a tree, and carried it to a hill in Jerusalem called
Golgotha.
The destiny of all mankind was affected for all eternity at the
tree in the garden of Eden. But, just as all eternity was affected
by that tree, the tree Jesus hung on intervened and effects the
destiny of mankind today. The Bible says in I Peter 2:24 that Jesus
“bare our sins in his own body on the tree,” Because Jesus took the
sins of all mankind in His body and suffered, all mankind can now
have a remedy for their sin problem.
The remedy is Jesus Christ. Romans 5:19 says, “For as by one man's
disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one
shall many be made righteous.” Because of sin, mankind can not go
to heaven, leaving hell as the only other alternative. John 3:3
says, “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto
thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of
God.” Jesus changed this by making His sinlessness available to all
who ask for it.
Jesus Christ went to the cross and died to pay for our sins, the
sins that would keep us out of heaven. He was taken off the tree
and buried in a tomb. Three days and three nights later He rose
from the dead. He then prepared the way for mankind to go to
heaven. Now He is willing to give you eternal life. If you will
turn from your sins, put your faith and hope of getting into heaven
in Jesus Christ, and act upon that by calling on Jesus to save you,
you will be saved. No one that has sincerely asked Jesus for
salvation has ever been turned down. Friend, you cannot go to
heaven without Jesus Christ as your Saviour. BUT, you cannot miss
heaven with Jesus Christ as your Saviour. Look to the tree of
calvary and see what Jesus did for you. Then think of the trees of
sin and think about what they have done for you. If you decide you
want what Jesus has to offer, it will never be regretted throughout
all eternity.
