The Cross
The cross is God’s gift to all mankind. It is the object that has
had an influence to people of any race, gender, creed, culture,
age, education, or background. It is the fulfillment of prophecy
after prophecy. Long before the creation of the sun, moon, and the
stars, the Lamb of God was slain. He was slain before the
foundation of the world. The cross is the greatest news ever
reported. It is the greatest story ever told. It is the greatest
picture ever painted. It is the greatest message ever written. The
cross is the key to open the door of grace.
The cross is not a fairy tell. It is not another tree bearing
another body of just another man. It is not a painless death. It is
not foolishness, as those that perish would think. The cross is not
another account of another religion started by another man.
The cross was meant for the vilest of the vile. It was a way to
slowly and painfully put someone to death. The bearer of it would
suffer pain like no one could imagine. He would have his hands and
feet pierced through with nails like railroad spikes. While that
would cause great pain, it would not be the reason for his death.
The arm and shoulder muscles would separate out of joint. As a
result, he would not be able to pull himself up. This would cause
death by suffocation. It would sometimes take days. He would become
weak from the pain, suffering, lack of food, water, air, and would
eventually die.
The apostle Paul said in I Corinthians 1:18, “For the preaching of
the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are
saved it is the power of God.” To those that are still in their
sins, they do not understand how the death of one Man can give life
to all mankind. They cannot understand how the pain of one Man can
provide healing for all who seek its remedy. All men have believed
that it was just foolishness. Even I did not understand the meaning
of a bloody, horrific death, that is, until I started trusting the
Man on the cross instead of looking at the Man on the cross.
The cross is the greatest thing I have ever seen. I never saw it
take place with my own eyes, but somehow, someway, I believe it
happened. Not only that, but I believe it happened for me. It is
not something that I laugh at or make light of. Without it I would
be on my way to Hell. Because of it, I am undeservingly on my way
to Heaven. On the cross, Christ Redeemed Our Sinful Soul. To many
it is another lie told by mommy and daddy. To me it is the greatest
act of love ever shown.
